David,
Do you have a Christen wobble pump? If so, there is a fuel filter in the bottom
that screws out and can be replaced. This acts as a final filter before the
fuel goes to the fuel pump and injectors / carburetor. (even though there is
also a small screen in the fuel distributor "spider" on injected engines)
I can't remember the exact filter part number right now, but you can get them at
any auto parts store. (if you have an experimental aircraft) This "might"
eliminate the need for a gascolator? Remember that a gascolator is another way
for the fuel system to trap water before it enters the fuel pump. The filter in
the wobble pump does a nice job of trapping other foreign material and should be
changed during each annual.
