"The planned construction is NOT for an electrical generating station"
...."then generate electricity from this stored water during the day"
So which is it then, storage or generation? The whole point of storage, as
stated below, is to delay generation until the time of peak electricity
cost - the day time. This is clearly storage AND generation, as point 2
stated, even thought the pre-amble suggested otherwise.
Having lived and worked in California I take a keen interest in all manner
of news stories from over there, even though I am now back in the UK. HG/PG
pilots will face an uphill struggle to get any support on this issue from
the wider, non-flying, community. Ask yourselves is it worth the bad press,
given that the almighty dollar always wins in the US?
The bodged electricity privatisation is partly to blame, as is the insane
level of consumption of all energy forms in the US. Under 5% of the world's
population and 25% of the CO2 production speaks for itself. I'll bet that
within the US the figures for California are about the worst per head (yes,
that's a guess!).
I deeply sympathise with anyone faced with losing a single site, let alone
one as renowned as Lake E. Just don't lose site of the bigger picture.
