I saw that show.
I was highly disappointed.
I fly hang gliders and have been around them for over 20 years. I used to
repair them before I flew them. I KNOW that this people was cheating. They
either had hidden hardware or they seed that junkyard with very specialized
parts. I could even recognize an older model in the glider they "designed".
That glider was disassembled and "planted" there.
BS...
The ultralight was also highly sophisticated from the hardware point of
view.
Not your average junk yard neighborhood I guess...
I guess it would be better if they kept a lower profile and faced more
realistic goals.
Besides, this people towed that "homemade" hangglider to make it fly. Most
of the HG towing accidents occur within the first few seconds of the tow
and, from my own experience, is the MOST dangerous phase of the flight. I
don't believe that anyone in their right mind would go for a tow without
further testing in a just-built home-rushed-designed HG. It is, IMHO
suicidal.
I don't believe in Junkyard wars, it may be a good glorified cartoon show,
but is NOT real.
At least not REAL aviation...
