Your instructor is about right. Why is it that you trust your instructor
with you life to take lessons, but not with your money to ask advice on what
to buy? I see this all the time and it baffles me. You don't need a new
glider, but good used beginner and intermediate gliders hold their value and
are not cheap. As for someone trading a used rig for you outdated "race",
don't hold your breath, no one wants it, that's why it was so cheap. Chalk
it up as a lesson learned (and please don't pawn it off on another
unsuspecting newbe, that'll make you as bad as the guy who did it to you).
