Harry, you are a little hard to follow so I can understand how things might not
have worked out with LMFP. Did you suggest that you wanted some kind of short
cut to an Advanced Rating?

I doubt that a "class 4" (you must mean the USHGA Advanced or sometimes
incorrectly called a "Hang 4") would be required to fly Jockey's Ridge. If you
do want an Advance Rating you should expect to do no less than the Pilot
Proficiency System (http://www.ushga.org/104-toc.asp) requires.

I also doubt that the LMFP folks were unwilling to show you their flying site
before you signed up for lessons.

What types of aircraft are you current in?

You must know that both groups are pilots of ALL types of aircraft and their
reluctance is simply not about whether you fly a "real glider" It is much more
likely an issue of your qualifications to fly such a primitive craft at sites
where the risk of liability plays such a major role.

You are presenting only some of the facts and they just don't add up.

To build such a replica must take an unusual love of flight and it sounds like
you have been frustrated in your quest to fly it. It would also seem that you
didn't get the warm reception you would expect after such a labor of love. I
can't imagine that the folks at Kitty Hawk would not have a keen interest in
seeing it flown. I can imagine, however, that they may be uncomfortable about
it being flown by anyone that is not a qualified pilot. They are no doubt under
a great deal of scrutiny by the owners of the dunes they are given permission
to use.

I have heard that in negotiations one should be able to clearly articulate the
other sides argument. To do so reassures your opponent that you have heard his
side and has the added bonus of verifying that you are correctly stating your
opponents position.

By the way Harry, the kind of hill you are seeking is something we are all
looking for. Good luck finding it!
