Buy the latest FAR / AIM: Make sure you have the most up-to-date FAA regulations. Buy a new FAR/AIM today!

My experience has been when I'm being radar vectored they assume I will be
flying inbound, but there's nothing like asking the controller if there is
any doubt. Also I would make sure the controller knows I want to fly the
full approach (course reversal) so as to avoid any confusion. You can
always call ATC on the phone a little later on and discuss it for training
purposes.
