Buy the latest FAR / AIM: Make sure you have the most up-to-date FAA regulations. Buy a new FAR/AIM today!

Roy has a good point about finding the power settings. I recently went
through this exact transition; 172 to Archer. The glide path descent
parameters are very close. In the 172 I used 1700, and little nose up trim,
no flaps and shallow turns with aileron and rudder (my CFII doesn't believe
in rudder only on the LOC, and I agree). This gets you about 90-100 kts. I
don't have as many approaches in the Archer as I do in the 172, but these
settings have worked for me in the Archer. The only real difference I see is
in the power setting for landing. The Archer seems to want to carry 1500 RPM
pretty much to the flare. I never tried this in a 172, always chopping the
throttle "when landing was assured".

Workload wise, the only additional item that I keep forgetting is the
@$^%#$^%@ fuel pump. Also do not learn the hard way that the Archer sucks
from one tank only!!!! Therefore, you may want to alter your GUMP check so
that the G will pick up the fullest tank, fuel pump on.
