I believe a lot of pilots feel that way about ATC in general, that
they're watching out for you so everything is ok. Whether it's
looking for traffic, planning a DP, or maintaining situational
awareness when they vector you through the localizer right toward the
mountain (as has happened to me at SNA), pilots need to double check
everything ATC says and not just rely on them to assure the safety of
your flight.
