I'm using Gleim to prepare for my upcoming writtens. Everyone I know has
said there are some answers you just have to memorize and get over it. But
I am particularly miffed by the calculation of the leg between GJT and DRO
(FAA# 4260).
There is a 75 NM leg with winds 230@8, 14 degrees E mag variation, flying
course 151, TAS = 175 kts.
Subtracting mag variation = 230 - 14 = 216@8
Gleim calculates this leg require 26 minutes 10 seconds.
My calculation says 75 NM/ 171 KTS Ground Speed = 26 minutes 19 seconds.
Is there someone that can divulge how the FAA / Gleim comes up with their
answers?
I'm definitely in the "hating it" phase of becoming Instrument Rated.
TIA,
Jack
