You'll need to listen to other's replies, too, but I spend a lot of time
at CGS, and got my instrument rating there, so I'll give you some info.
You'll probably be handled by Washington controllers (as opposed to
Andrews). You can probably expect that they'll be vectoring you, as
opposed to a STAR. If you have VOR/DME RNAV, then they're supposed to
vector you onto the final approach course, although they normally just
vector you into the vicinity of PINEY, and let you enter the approach
on you own. This isn't the way it's supposed to be, because there isn't
any defined course reversal, but my instructor has been dumped at PINEY
a bunch of times, and they just let you figure out how to get reversed.
The GPS approach pretty much overlays the VOR/DME RNAV and also doesn't
have a defined course reversal, so I suspect they'd do the same in that
case. If your not equipped for either of those, then they'll vector
you over the airport at, I believe, 1700 ft, which should still be the
minimum vectoring altitude for that area. I'd be there to see you, but
I'll be at the beach this weekend. Good luck!
