Hi, y'all -
Looking at VOR/DME or GPS-B, Madison County Executive Airport (M82),
Huntsville, AL, where, starting tomorrow, my Saratoga will be hangared.
There is a CNF named (CFCEO) which is identified as an (IAF). Regarding
CNFs, the AIM says: "The CNF name will not be used in filing a flight plan
or in aircraft/ATC communications. Use current phraseology, e.g., facility
name, radial, distance, to describe these fixes". I haven't looked in my
GPS, but if it is an IAF, seems like it ought to be in the database and as
an IAF. Also seems like I ought to be able to file it. How can it be used
as an IAF without being referenced somehow? Is the controller going to say
"Proceed direct 10 DME 250 radial Rocket"? Also looks like it ought to be
labeled NoPT from (CFCEO) since it's NoPT from DCU.
Interesting sidenote. Approach control is from HSV, a nearby Class C. Many
times they will give you intercept vectors for the 070 procedure track and
say "Vectors to final approach course". I flew this on my instrument
checkride last year and after I got the vectors, the DE asked me what
mistake the controller made.
