Texas (well, except for Dallas) is famous for that sort of thing. Some years
back an in-law of mine (quite well off) from another country was up here for a
visit. On a trip to a MAJOR tourist attraction (I won't mention which one) he
declined to go along with the rest of the group and was going to just "hang
around." While standing there he encountered an old farmer type pulling in
driving an old beat up pickup truck. They struck up a conversation and my
in-law invited him to the coffee shop for a bite.
They talked about an hour, really hit it off. My in-law invited him to come to
South America for a visit, even offered to pay for the tickets. Eventually
the "farmer" had to leave, and a little bit later my in-law tried to get the
waitress to bring the check.
"Oh, it's been taken care off." she said.
Upset, my in-law told her "No, you weren't supposed to give him the check. I
invited *him*."
"Oh, he doesn't pay." she replied. "He owns the entire park, including this
diner and most of the land around here!"
